The Meebo Bar Comes To WillINeedIt, Chat To Your Friends And Share Content As You Browse

Over the last couple of days you may have noticed an inconspicuous toolbar located at the bottom of every article on WillINeedIt. This toolbar is provided by the pioneering web based instant messaging company Meebo and will offer the functionality to log into your favourite instant messaging services anywhere on the site!

Not only will you be able to chat with friends on a multitude of different networks, you will be able to share images, videos and the pages themselves on Facebook, Twitter and Email as you browse the website using the impressive “Drag To Share” function. To take advantage of this, simply hover over the content you wish to share and you will be asked to drag the snippet to the location of your choice (shown in the screenshot below).

image

Users can also share content with their friends as they chat, again by dragging the specified image or video into the dialog box of the person you are chatting with.

On the far left of the toolbar is the option to share the website instead of particular parts of it. To take advantage of this, click the “Share Page” button (shown below).

We hope that you enjoy being able to read and share our content whilst chatting with friends, if you have any comments or suggestions, drop us a line in the comments section.

WillINeedIt To Attend The Windows 7 Launch At Wembley Stadium

A week or so ago I received an email from a social media agency acting on behalf Microsoft, asking whether I would be interested in attending the Microsoft Technical Launch Event on the 6th October at Wembley Stadium. Intrigued, I read more of the email and noticed it was covering the launches of Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Microsoft Exchange 2010, I would be a fool not to attend.

Signing up, I received notification of my place and will be especially attending the Windows 7 product launch (our Windows 7 coverage may have helped somewhat in getting this invitation). We are especially lucky in the respect that these tickets were booked almost instantly when they were released, with WillINeedIt getting a personal invite sometime after that.

The event offers feedback sessions led by IT Pro Evangelist James OʼNeill and Windows 7 Product Manager, Laurence Painell. As you may have stumbled upon WillINeedIt after reading one of our Windows 7 articles, we wanted to open the floor to our readers and allow you to have the opportunity to ask the questions that really matter about Windows 7.

If we get the chance, we will ask the questions you provide. Drop us a line in the comments section and we will do our best to get them out there. Expect a full round up in the days following the launch!

Windows 7 Upgrade Paths

Windows 7 is just around the corner. The real question now is how you would like to install it. There are two options for installing Windows 7, Custom and In-Place Upgrade. Custom meaning a clean install. In-Place Upgrade meaning you can upgrade your OS and keep your programs and settings. Unfortunately, not all Windows 7 versions will allow both these options. All possible upgrade paths are shown on the chart below.

WillINeedIt Welcomes Patrick Tseng

It seems that the open call for writers a week or so back, worked! Today, I am pleased to announce the newest member of the WillINeedIt Team; Patrick Tseng.

Patrick will be working to bring you the most important tech stories, tips and How-To’s as well as interacting with you via the comments section of the website.

Here’s what Patrick has to say about himself:

I’m from Vancouver, BC. My favorite thing to do is go biking, as I usually bike instead of taking the bus or driving. In the days where I have nothing to do, I usually read tech websites to fill my interests.

Sometimes, I explore new kinds of food, and always end up in the bathroom, or eating more. I am always looking for a opportunity to try new stuff!

Let’s all welcome Patrick!

Site Update: July 2009

As you may have noticed, there has been a distinct lack of posting on WillINeedIt recently, mainly down to the fact life has been so manically busy. With that said, this is a small update to let the readers and subscribers of WillINeedit know that things are set to change and we will resume (hopefully) our one a day article posting schedule.

This is also coupled with an open call for writers, people who know and love tech as much as we do here. If you feel this is your calling and you want to grab a place as a writer here on WillINeedIt, we currently offer adsense sharing on posts only. As soon as our normal schedule is resumed and we are able to post more stories, this will be upped to $10 per post.

Basically, we are asking for people who wish to help the site grow, if you help it restart and become a bigger player in the technology blogging industry, you will be rewarded handsomely for doing so.

To apply, simply use the contact form, which can be found by clicking here.

Thanks for reading and we hope to interact with you soon.

Matt and the team.

WillINeedIt.com Gets An Update

Today I decided to give WillINeedIt.com a New Year spruce up. As we are continuing to grow, reaching out to new readers every day, the idea was to present a clean and fluid layout that would entice visitors to come back again and again to the site.

Changes are continually being made to the site, changes that will hopefully compliment the quality of content present here on WillINeedIt.com.

What are your thoughts? Please leave a message in the comments.

How To: Watch Live Premiership Football with TVersity and Sopcast

image In the modern era, sport on television is delivered via a paid subscription model. If you wish to watch the big game, most of the time you will need access to a monthly subscription to be able to watch it (I speak for the UK at least).

Luckily, there are several methods of watching football and other sports via the internet, methods that will reduce the need to pay for the privilege of watching it. Some people swear by watching live streams via uStream and Justin.tv but a far more reliable and useful way of watching is using a P2P client like Sopcast and streaming it live to your TV.

Today, I aim to instruct you how to setup Sopcast to stream via Tversity, thus making it possible to watch live internet sport on your television with no cost to you. This guide takes into account that you are familiar with TVersity, if you aren’t please leave a comment and if enough people request it, I will write a guide for you.
