With the release of the Motorola Droid, awareness has been raised about the Google Android platform and shown there is a real alternative to Apple’s iPhone. Many people have ditched their iPhone’s and migrated across to the Google platform but have had real trouble working out how to get all of their contacts, settings and app data ported from one device to the other.
We have recently showcased a number of Android apps that will help iPhone owners move from the App Store to the Android Market and today we will show you how to make sure all of your iPhone contacts are ported from the iPhone to your Android phone courtesy of Google Contacts. This is tried and tested on a HTC Hero, I haven’t had the chance to check and see if it works with the Droid. If it works for you, please let us know in the comments.

You could have called me an iPhone fanboy, there are plenty of articles on WillINeedIt demonstrating the fact. I recently had the chance to take possession of a new HTC Hero, a Google Android powered phone, and I wanted to see just how well it stacked up against the mercurial Apple device.
I am a week in to my experience of being an Android phone owner and I think it’s safe to say I will be sticking with the open framework and ditching the restrictions and closed nature of the iPhone. I have found that the two devices are very similar and that most of the apps can be downloaded for both platforms.
There are quite a few Android Market list articles floating about on the web and I am going to add another one to the list. This article is for people who have recently moved from an iPhone and want to know just what apps will mimic the functionality of their old device, helping their transition from the walled garden of the iPhone to the glorious pastures of the Android operating system. All of the apps listed here will be downloadable from the Android Market, we will try to either link to the Market or the official homepage of the app itself.
If you are the owner of an iPhone or know your gadgets, you will know that jailbreaking your iPhone can mean you open your device so you can use it without Apple’s inbuilt restrictions and even use it on another mobile network. Apple recently released two firmware updates for their iPhone and iPod Touch devices, with the newest firmware 3.1.2 fixing many bugs brought by previous interactions.

The following article explains how to unlock your iPod 3G/3GS and iPod Touch on a Windows machine. This will not unlock your iPhone to work on other mobile carriers and it is advised to wait until the PwnageTool is released by the iPhone Dev Team before upgrading your iPhone from 3.0 or 3.1.
One of the biggest complaints about the App Store is that is really difficult to find new and innovative apps for your iPhone or iPod Touch. Whilst Apple have a Featured and What’s Hot section within their App Store, the organic searching of apps is predominantly down to the name of the app, not the features it possesses.
Luckily there are quite a few websites on hand to help clear the confusion around App Store searching, the newest of them being a service called uQuery, with their self proclaimed tagline: The AppStore Search Engine.

For the longest time, I would curse and rant about how I always had to enter my login details for sites I visited on my iPhone. Until recently, I had completely missed the fact there was even an “Autofill” button on the keyboard when I was typing in my credentials.

The new wave of mobile phones brought with them many new software improvements, marketplaces and overall just a nicer sense of usability for the user. One hardware addition to these phones that many people are still to recognise the potential of is the Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) chip that can turn these phones into miniature navigation and positioning devices.

Are you tired of having to sync your iPhone/iPod Touch with iTunes just for one song? Mewseek is the solution to all your problems. Formerly known as iSlsk, MewSeek is a P2P application for your jailbroken iPhone/iPod Touch.
Many people now have jailbroken iPod touch and/or iPhone. It allows you to install custom apps, and literally change your device to the way you like it. Back when firmware 1.1.1 was out, there was a Cydia app called “Customize” that allowed you to edit the text that you see in the lockscreen.
However, ever since the 2.2.1 and 3.0 firmware were released, this app was broken and hasn’t been updated as yet. Numerous workarounds has been created, however they weren’t very user friendly, and could cost you a reformat of the iPod. A lot of iPhone users are frustrated with the lack of access to the inner workings of their mobile phone. Sony Ericsson and Nokia users have long had the ability to plug their phone into their computer and simply move files to and from the device with the minimum of fuss.
To access files on their iPhones, most users will use iTunes to upload and download their photos, music and ringtones. A small selection of iPhone users however have noted that on a jailbroken phone, they can SSH into their device and manipulate files that way.
What would you say if there was an easy way to upload and download files with an Explorer type interface? The good news is there is just that software available and I will show you how to use it.
