Yeah, the title pretty much sums it all up. I was lucky enough to grab a Google Wave invite very soon after the public beta invites were released and have had a long period to test the service, interact with friends and on public waves, now we want to be able to give you the chance to get involved with what’s popular right now.
You can use this article to familiarise yourself with what Google Wave is, what it does and find out just why you will need one.
Update – 25/11/09: We now only have 7 invites left, get in before they run out!
26/11/09 – We have given away all 30 invites but now have 10 more!
What Is Google Wave?
Instead of trying to explain what Google Wave is in my own words, I am going to use the official Google Wave About Page for direct quoting:
Google Wave is an online tool for real-time communication and collaboration. A wave can be both a conversation and a document where people can discuss and work together using richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.
What Does Google Wave Allow Me To Do?
Google Wave is set up much like an email client, your waves are stored in the middle part of your screen. Clicking on a Wave will display it’s contents.
Waves can contain lots of different information and media, ranging from simply text and pictures to videos and games of chess. Waves turn bold when they are updated so you know that someone has updated a Wave you are participating in.
Think of Google Wave as a collaborative email, messages are sent real-time and users can witness Waves being typed, almost like an instant messaging protocol.
How Do I Get An Invite?
![]()
All you have to do to grab an invite is join the WillINeedIt Facebook Page (it’s as easy as clicking a button on the sidebar!) and then leave a message in the comments section of this article letting us know you have done so. We will give the invites out on a first come, first served basis until we physically have none left. Make sure to use a valid email address as this will be used to send out your invite.
Invites take a couple of days to come through via email so be patient when we let you know we have invited you. We don’t know why this is but we waited a good few days for ours!
Best of luck, hit us up once you get one!
