Just three days ago, we published an article on how Google had introduced social features to their online services. At the bottom of the article I mentioned how it was possible Google would push live new features without many people knowing it was coming, today they did exactly that.
Google Reader now has the option to share feed content via a number of different social networks. We will show you how to access this and have your feed reader setup to spam any number of different services.
The first thing you need to do to make use of this service is to log into your Google Reader account and access the settings. Because this service is an opt-in service, you will need to navigate to the “Send To” options pane and select which services you wish to publish your feeds to.
As you can see from the screenshot above, you can add your own URL’s to share your content. Some of the links that are already live on the internet are as follows:
Name: Google Bookmarks
URL: http://www.google.com/bookmarks/mark?op=edit&output=popup&bkmk=${url}&title=${title}
Icon URL: http://www.google.com/favicon.icoName: Add to Any
URL: http://www.addtoany.com/share_save?linkurl=${url}&linkname=${title}
Icon URL: http://www.addtoany.com/favicon.icoSource: Google Operating System
Once you have selected these options, the “Send To” option will now be available on the bottom toolbar of every feed item:
I decided to share my feed item on Twitter, here is the end result:
I wonder if three days after this post is published we see new features added?!
