I have been using various extensions inside my Mozilla Firefox browser to help with my enormous collection of bookmarks, using Xmarks to sync my favourites and passwords between my home and work PC and also using Delicious Toolbar so I can access my bookmarks when I am unable to use a Firefox browser.
Until yesterday I didn’t have any problems with these bookmarks, until I installed an update to Xmarks.
What Happened To The Bookmarks?
Upon restarting the browser, all of my extensions and icons loaded fine, except I had a completely empty Bookmark Toolbar (shown below):
Thinking Xmarks had completely deleted all of my bookmarks, I checked in the Bookmarks menu on the Firefox top bar and sure enough, the Bookmark Toolbar was still present:
How To Recover The Lost Toolbar
Luckily, I stumbled across an easy way to fix this problem, all it requires is a little bit of dragging and dropping.
Firstly you need to check if the bookmark icon is present in your toolbar. To do this, right-click on an empty space above the address bar in your browser and select “Customize”. if there is no text in your toolbar, you need to add the Bookmarks icon back to the toolbar. The process for this can be shown below:
Once this is done, click “Done” in the Customize Toolbar window and your bookmarks should return to their original state.
Conclusion
The cause of the missing Bookmarks could be down to a malfunctioning extension, I haven’t had a problem with them since that particular update of Xmarks. As long as the Bookmarks aren’t physically deleted, you should always be able to restore them using this method.
