The social web is growing larger and stronger everyday, as one new idea pops up, competing sites pop up and try to take a share of the social website market. With all these websites, it can be difficult to register on them with the same username.
In a bid to allow users to see what websites a certain username can be registered, CheckUsernames lists over one hundred social websites that can be crawled to return an available or unavailable status.
It’s as simple as entering your chosen username and clicking the “Check User Name” button. For demonstration purposes, I have used my online handle “m4tt” in the following screenshot:
CheckUsernames has problems determining whether usernames are taken for some services like Flickr, as user profiles are not always indicative of personal URL’s for that particular service.
If your online handle is something that is very important to you, this website could cause any potential embarrassment when registering on any new websites.
