Let’s face it, everybody likes a gimmick. I have previously highlighted the File Destructor, a website that allows you to download custom made erroneous documents to fool your teachers into thinking your coursework corrupted on your disk. Now I wish to point you in the direction of an application for the working folk among us.
The Fake Progress Bar, from Digital Volcano is a freeware application that, when run, will make your computer look like it is working overtime, which couldn’t possibly allow you to do any work.
When you run the application, the default progress bar will be displayed, make sure you click the cog icon to bring up the settings (shown above). Here, you will be able to customise your progress bar and select different settings for whenever you wish it to run.
Once you have decided on your different statuses and the length of time they run for, you simply click OK and the application will display your progress bar and nothing else. Then is the time to indicate to your boss that your computer is busy and you need to stare into space some more.
I would never have the inclination to use this application but if you need an excuse to get off doing some work and everything else has failed, this piece of software may just get you that time you need.
