Saving the environment is big business these days, with companies pledging to offset their carbon emissions, eco-friendly cars are starting to become mainstream and governments introducing initiatives to get people to stop wasting energy.
A business inevitably has to use paper for it’s documentation and filing but what if they could save printing ink when doing so? This is what SPRANQ are aiming to do, by developing a new font; EcoFont.
What is EcoFont?
Good question. It’s a font that aims to remove parts of printed lettering whilst maintaining readability.
SPRANQ’s research led them to identify that circles would give them the best results, with a finished font that uses up to 20% less ink. The font is open source, available on Windows, Mac OS. Linux and can be downloaded here.
If you (or your company) is in a bid to be more eco-friendly, using this font may help ink consumption. Things like purchasing a more economical printer, printing only when necessary and sourcing environmentally friendly ink supplies.
