Turn Your Camera Into A Scanner with Snapter

Let’s say you are at a meeting with a client and some important documents are shared with you. You are allowed a copy but there isn’t a photocopier. However, you do have your camera.

With Snapter, you can take a picture of that document, input it into the application and get a PDF copy of the document in a readable format.

The software doesn’t just work with documents however, it can be used to convert shots from Business Cards, Whiteboards and Books.

The proof is in the screenshots, which can be found below:

As you can see, the software intelligently recognises the text from the book, even taking into account the curvature of the pages themselves.

With mobile phones having ever increasingly powerful cameras incorporated, this piece of software could be a godsend to those who work in their “mobile office”.

  • It definitely brings up some privacy concerns that's for sure. The problem is people have so many tools at their disposal to be able to capture information, I've heard of times where people have captured documents that are quite grainy, passed them through Photoshop and inverted the colours, giving a perfectly legible document that would have been difficult to read with the naked eye.

It's a clever piece of software, I wonder how many people use it for the purposes you have noted above.
  • This is really worrying for someone like me. We have auditors come and visit and they are allowed to take notes but not full copies of things. We give them access to a cleaned and safe client file on PC and in paper which they can check but they are not allowed to upload any of the data to the web. They cant plug in to the network. This could be one way that they get more info than they need.
