The Foolproof Way To Get A Windows 7 Beta Product Key

Since 12:00PM yesterday, Microsoft opened it’s doors to the official Windows 7 Beta, allowing the many Windows 7 users who had pirated their copy to have a legitimate key to continue their testing.

Microsoft underestimated the demand for the operating system and the Windows 7 download site was subsequently subjected to crashes and invalid file requests.

If you visit the official Windows 7 download page now, you will get the following error:

Thanks for your interest in the Windows 7 Beta. The volume has been phenomenal—we’re in the process of adding more servers to handle the demand. We’re sorry for the delay and we’ll re-post the Beta as soon as we can ensure a quality download experience.

Never fear, there is a still a way to grab your download and your key.

To download Windows 7, you don’t need a key, you can grab the files directly using the links below:

You can leave that downloading whilst you attempt to get a key to activate the system.

Head over to TechNet Downloads, click the “Sign In” link and let everything load. From there, in the same window, make sure you Copy and Paste the following link:

32-Bit key : https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/scripts/gcs.aspx?Product=tn-win7-32-ww&LCID=1033 (Remember, Copy and Paste!)

64-bit key : https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/scripts/gcs.aspx?Product=tn-win7-64-ww&LCID=1033 (Remember, Copy and Paste!)

Update: To stop any confusion, the key will work on either version that you downloaded, you don’t need to wait for a 32-bit or 64-bit specific key.

You need to be signed in, you should get a page with the following information:

If you have this page, you are on the right track. Now, you just need to keep refreshing the page until you get through to the Product Key stages. To aid this process, I suggest you install the “Check4Change Firefox Addon which will refresh the page at whatever interval you wish and alert you when the page does change.

This method may change as Microsoft changes it’s servers, it doesn’t hurt to try.

I couldn't get the links over at Lifehacker to work, but I saw your post and gave this a try. The link worked for me first try! Thanks for the great guide.
  • Jeff
I GOT MY KEY!!! Not only if the download wouldn't be so slow
  • Rapdude
Try hitting refresh after you get the cd key. It let me get 2 more. hehehe

    @Paul

    I'm getting the same result

UPDATE: It worked after a few more minute, but there is no error page anymore, just the blank screen that Pail mentioned.
  • Psitech
Worked for me as well. Thanks!!
  • steve g
    thanks!! worked!
  • Paul
    Seems not to be working...

I followed the steps to get a key, but the following link leads me to a blank page...
    https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/script...

If I look at the page source, all I see is:

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd">

    Any ideas?

Wow it took 3 hours of refreshing every three seconds on two different pages, but it got there in the end! I got the key on a 64bit Link, at around 12:45 GMT

Thank you for the tip about C4C - it worked brilliantly. I now have 'Ch-Ch-Changes' going round and round in my head!!

If others are trying, my suggestion would be to set C4C to refresh every 2-3 seconds (that is, two to three seconds after loading the page) and tick so it makes a noise, and tick the last box which says something along the lines of 'allow navigation away from the page' because sometimes the microsoft website directs you to its stupid search page.

all in all, C4C FTW. Bring on windows 7.

Do we just have one explorer window open for this? Would mutlible ones help?
  • There's no exact science behind it I'm afraid, do as you wish and hope for the best!
  • beta testa
thanks for your speedy reply :) :).. is good to know a time frame... hopefully it wont take that long.. ive 5 windows refreshing... should i open more? also what time interval should i set?
  • I've set mine to 30 seconds, which has reduced the number of redirects to the search page. As for more thats your choice :)
  • beta testa
ok cool.. thanks for the check4change tip aswel. is saving a lot of clicking! :)
  • Thanks dude, I thought there was no way I was going to sit there and manually refresh!
  • beta testa
how ong does it take to get it when refreshing? check4change is running now but sometimes it diverts me to a search page..
  • It can take hours, you just have to sit patiently and hope you get one. It's frustrating as hell.
  • Paul
Just got a key using the 64-bit link.

    Thanks for the tip!!
  • Jeff
Hey What did you have your refresh set to?
  • I set mine to 30 seconds, this reduced the amount of times the search pages came up.
  • Anytime :)
  • yannis
Thanks, worked like a charm. One thing to note is that the key reads 64bits, but it should work for x86, right?
  • yannis
Not right, I just noticed you updated the post with 32bit key links. Back to square 1.
  • Yannis, the key will work on both versions. If you have a 64bit key, it will work on the 32bit and vice versa.

I will update the post to show this.
