Rip Your Last.fm Radio Streams with TheLastRipper

Last.fm is seen as the leader behind the revolution in internet music and in my opinion rightly so. They took all the artists, albums and songs and made information on them readily available, as they grew they added music clips, eventually allowing you to add playlists of your favourite music.

What made Last.fm stand out for me was how it linked artists and genre’s to user profiles, allowing the service to accurately suggest music that you may like based on other people’s music playlists.

With that in mind, TheLastRipper is an application that connects to your personal radio stream and allows you to save the music it streams to your hard drive.

thelastripperAs shown in the screenshot above, the application asks you to enter an Artist, Tag, Group etc and it will then stream music that Last.fm has selected for you. Downloads deafult to the My Music directory but this can be changed. The application also supports:

  • Appending ID3v2 tags.
  • Downloading of album covers.
  • Organisation of your music library using Artist/Album/Track.

The legality of using this application is questionable so I advise that you use it at your own risk. But if you wish to download some new music based on similar acts you specify, this is the tool for you.
